How we score
Every tool on this site gets the same five factors at the same weights, and every number links to a published source with a date. Here is the rubric, what each factor measures, and what we do when we get something wrong.
The rubric
| Weight | Factor | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| 30% | Cost per job, no strings | What one report costs a shop once plans, minimums, and add-ons are counted. Flat published per-report pricing scores highest; subscription math is worked out at a realistic monthly volume. |
| 25% | Insurance-side readiness | Does the tool deliver an ESX that opens in Xactimate® and a PDF suitable for a claim file? Native formats score highest; exports and add-ons score lower; roof-only tools without an estimating-platform format score lowest. |
| 20% | Speed to bid | Order to report in hand, standard tier, no rush fee. Published guarantees (same day, under an hour) score highest. DIY tools are scored on realistic capture-plus-draw time, not the instant the app claims. |
| 15% | DIY vs done-for-you | Order by address and receive a finished report, versus climb, capture, and draw it yourself. Done-for-you scores highest for a working crew; DIY scores higher when unlimited use is included. |
| 10% | Corrections and support | What the revision policy says: is a revision free, how fast, and is there a human. Published no-charge correction policies score highest. |
Where the numbers come from
Published prices come from the provider's own pricing page and are cited with the date we checked. Prices a provider does not publish are labeled reported or quoted and treated as less certain. Vendor accuracy or turnaround claims are labeled as the vendor's claim, not as our finding. We do not present a figure we cannot source.
Two roofers write every review: one retail read, one insurance read, one combined score. Where we disagree the review says so.
What we are not claiming
We describe our method and our sources. We do not claim a special status, a lab, or a certification. Scores are the output of the rubric above applied to public information, checked on the date shown. That is the whole basis for trusting them, and it is the only basis we ask you to use.
Corrections
If a price, turnaround, or policy on this site is wrong or out of date, email us and we will fix it and update the as-of date. Providers are welcome to send us their current published terms; we cite the page, not the email.
